Out of Office

Out of Office

Earlier in the week when I launched Maman Pages I promised you all a little update on how things are going over at CheltenhamMaman HQ and today the family and I are off on our holibobs and what better way to sign out from the site for a little while than to fill you all in on why I’m really ready for a break (aren’t we all?)

It’s been a crazy year and most weeks I have the standard ups and downs about this wonderful creation/untamable beast.  In fact many of you may have read the interview I did with the wonderful Fleur or Belle Enfant a few weeks ago when she mentioned that they are starting to think about employing some staff. I published it on a day when I was having all the wobbles about the site and whether I have the strength and the willpower to keep on pushing to make a go of it and that day ended with me sending her an email to enquire about the job. Thank god that as a fellow MumBoss she was having none of it and in the kindest way imaginable told me to keep on at it. I spend my life telling the start ups that I work with that Rome wasn’t built in a day and at times it seems I could do with reminding myself of this!

The thing is it’s really hard work and though I spend perhaps a day a week prancing about as a blogger or presenting at an event I actually spend four or five times that in my little cave of an office (the corner of my bedroom – don’t ask about the piles of laundry always sitting behind me) tip tapping away at my computer….. and making stuff happen. That’s the hardest thing about life as an entrepreneur… nothing happens unless you make it  happen which will make these next few weeks very strange for me indeed!

So many people still don’t understand how the site can ever be a viable business and at times I struggle to explain it to them myself but the way I see it is that you, the reader, my audience deserve the best mothering experience Gloucestershire has to offer. As long as I can feed you with what you need…. great content, interesting points of view, new friends at events and the knowledge that you are not alone then you’ll stick by me and put up with the odd blog or social media post where I am obviously flogging my wares to keep the kids in school trousers (will those boys EVER stop growing) and myself in prosecco.

So it’s going okay but there is more work to be done to make my new little baby a forever thing. Thanks to all of you who have stuck with it and support it by Pushing It Real Good, MumBossing it, booking tickets for events, reading, laughing at my awful jokes, not pointing out the spelling mistakes I have failed to edit out of blogs and telling your friends about the site. You’re all gems and I love you to bits.

If I could ask one more teensy thing from you? Let me have your comments – comment on the blog (yep just a few lines down from here), comment on my social media posts and send me messages to let me know what you love and what you hate. The numbers tell me you’re out there but when I’m feeling tired and hormonal I convince myself you’re all just people I used to go to school with logging on to have a laugh at that loony kid with the braces and boobs that were way too big for a nine year old (let’s hope the Bébé escapes that.)

Hope those of you having staycations, holidays, working on through or just long old summers at home with the small people have a great one. Over and out for a couple of weeks.

CMHQ x

You are doing a wonderful job Kate, I love the articles you post on so many different aspects of parenthood and I’m glad to see you’re bringing back the Maman jobs bit, not relevant to me but I’ve always admired the idea of it for others. I find it very difficult not to attend so many of your events due to my lack of free time/money/distance but I’m in it for the long haul as we plan to move back to Gloucestershire when I qualify and maybe even have baby number 2. So my dear you bloody best still be doing your thing then otherwise I’m going to be one clueless Gloucestershire Maman! Much love to you Sweetheart and have a super break, you deserve it xx

I love reading your blog posts when I wake up in the morning. They give me a little reminder that I’m doing ok before the day has started throwing all of the craziness at me. Even though I’m technically South Gloucestershire, it makes me feel part of a community outside of the normal day to day. I’ve definitely learnt more and become richer in experience because of all of your hard work. I’ve been to two of your events, both were brilliant, and am looking forward to another one in September as well as contributing my first blog post for you. Please don’t stop what you’re doing (I panicked when I read the above about applying for a job!) because you’re enriching people’s lives and making this hard job of mothering that bit easier. Plus, you’re bloody lovely, so give yourself a break. Have a fabulous holiday x

    Hi Kate

I think your doing a great job,.

As a Grannie Maman I enjoy dipping in and out of the posts and blogs, they keep this older Maman up to date with what’s happening in the world of babies now. Therefore hopefully not overdoing the ‘old’ advice to my kids.

Being a new Grannie (& grandpa) is also a rollercoaster of emotions, with a lot of new stuff to learn.

    Thanks for your blogs.

Hope you James, & the kids have a wonderful break.

You are doing a great job, it’s hard juggling everything and running your own business, it’s only natural sometimes the balls lower a bit. Have a well deserved break and come back feeling refreshed.

Kate, you are an inspiration to so many and have built the most incredible community. The most worthwhile things are the hardest to achieve but be safe in the knowledge that you will reap the rewards. Have a good rest xx

I’ve said it many times before but without you, I would have really struggled to settle and make friends when I moved to Cheltenham last year. I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done and continue to do. Your hard work is so so appreciated and I believe you are really making a difference for all us mums who are looking for someone to show us that it really is all ok!

Enjoy your break, you deserve it! Lots of love xx

Running a business on your own steam and brainpower (willpower!) is tough! I long sometimes for sick pay and being able to switch off at 5pm and leave the worrying to someone else! Your blog and social media are better than you know and with the growing following it’ll do extremely well. Keep in touch with people who understand and that you can bounce ideas off, you need your own Mumboss wolf pack, even for those days when you just think it’s all pointless! The holiday will be just the tonic and hopefully you’ll feel able to switch off so you come back refreshed and brimming with ideas. Have a lovely time! x 🖱 💪

Kate, don’t stop, dig those mum heels in and remember all those sleepless nights with the Bebe where you secretly wish there was a return to sender option but the next minute out cracks a gorgeous gurgle or a melt of a smile… and that is when you realise every single bleurgh moment is worth it, extend that concept to your other baby … cheltenham maman. You are an incredibly inspiring woman keep going for all us mummas… we need you! Xx

    Hi Kate,
I hope you have the most amazing holiday and enjoy some well-earned time-out with your lovely family!
Please don’t feel disheartened and or overwhelmed about the impact and success of your Blog. I am a recent member (and am nowhere even close to Cheltenham, so am honoured and thrilled to be allowed ‘in’!)and contributor but I wanted to thank you for your absolutely brilliant and diverse blog, but in addition I wanted to thank you for achieving the personal goal of being a ‘published blogger – be it just the one post on your site. You were kind and encouraging within our interactions while I was nervous and unsure about how and what to write, and I really needed and appreciate that. I am really enjoying being a member of your site and just wanted to drop you this note to say I love to read all of the articles and your events sound fabulous…I am little far away for them sadly down here in surrey. But remember a change is a as good as a rest…so I am sure after your hols you will be itching to get back to your blocking best! Thanks Laura xx

Kate your doing great x inspiring, achieving so much!

I will be trying out freelancing (graphic design) thanks to your posts and mumboss posts, you are engendering confidence and positivity among us fellow mamans!
When my crazy little one is taking his nap in my arms I love to read one of your varied blogs.
My little bit of sanity for the day before he awakes fully recharged and attention seeking, chaos, once again.

    Enjoy your well earned holibobs!

I have these days so often! It’s crazy scary not having a regular salary and exchanging it for a dream. But there are always the awesome bits to keep you going! You’ll feel so much better after a break. Melissa, SpareMyTime x
