Next to the Trump/global affairs angst, surely shopping for jeans counts as a close second. In my camp nothing brings me near to tear, tantrums (that’s the mothers, not the toddlers) and fills more females with dread, than trying to ‘figure’ out, excuse the pun which style, cut, fit, and size is right for them. Then throw in the current train of thought from fashion’s most influential, that after years of wearing our beloved wardrobe staple skinnies, that they are now a tad passe, and it becomes double denim dread…..Yes girls #thestruggleisreal.
So, is it time to upscale the skinnies in favour of the new denim threads? Are you ready to break out of your sartorial comfort zone, and tap into the new trends, try something new and get your jeans mojo back on track?
Thankfully, this season it couldn’t be easier to find your perfect pair of denim heroes. The sky may not blue right now, but 2017’s feel-good vibe may have just started.
Get some jean therapy now…..
Ankle cleavage – expose some skin in cropped frayed jeans, with a mum mule/loafer by day. Possibility of a night on the razz? (forget parents evening) – A heel takes them to new horizons.
Kick some ass – kick flares are this seasons must have silhouette, your ankles will look slimmer and your legs longer (trust me) try them with sneakers or flats for Mum duty.
Step up – stepped hems (my current favorite) team with a slouchy sweater and maximize the ankle grazing length with boots. Ready to up the ante?…Add a blazer and heeled pumps for an uber stylish look.
Straight up – not thinking of dropping your super skinnies anytime soon? Try straight-leg jeans. Paired with a schoolboy shirt, this season’s new kitten heels or flip flops, these are a wardrobe basic.
Smaller in the middle but need to slim your lower half? A higher waistline straight-leg shape will work for you.
One thing that will never change is our love affair for denim, Yves Saint-Laurent once said he’d wished he had invented it.
Jeans are a must-have building block of any wardrobe. And the truth be told for now, my skinnies have moved into the classic category of the wardrobe. But, for a cool take on a fail safe uniform this season, why not dip a leg or preferably two, into hacked off hems, worn, torn, or frayed, and guarantee a style that’s anything but ‘hack’neyed.
Easy does it –
Skint? Ditch the credit card, and try this D.I.Y method. Think cheese grater (mind the knuckles) a good pair of kitchen scissors, and the tumble dryer……Vetements eat your heart out!
